Maxwell Robinson Jumps into the Beauty Industry
by Giovanna Smith
Communications Major Max Robinson took a chance on an internship in the beauty industry, a field he never considered working in before applying. However, he gained a new perspective on collaboration and was glad to try something new.
He said that the internship “gave me perspective on how to work collaboratively in any setting.”
From being an intern at Moo Makeup, he realized that it can be invigorating to work outside your comfort zone and that communication and flexibility are the keys to success.
- What is your internship and what do you do?
I was an operations assistant at Moo Makeup and I basically would try to help out wherever I could, whether that was organizing the calendar, preparing documents, or pitching in to give ideas when they were needed.
- How did you find this internship?
I found the internship through personal connections. A former classmate of mine had the opportunity to work part-time as an assistant for Moo Makeup and through that I was able to come into my position.
- Why did you choose this internship?
I chose this internship because I wanted to be out of my comfort zone. Working in the beauty industry isn't something I had ever planned, but this gave me perspective on how to work collaboratively in any setting.
- What are some things you’ve learned from this internship that you think you can apply to a future job?
Flexibility was an important quality when working for Moo Makeup. Working for an entrepreneur taught me that your ability to get a job done is equally as important as being personable with the people you work with. Communicating effectively is the best quality you can bring to a professional environment, no matter the industry. I aim to bring that wherever I go next.
