What is the Center for Community Engagement and what do we do?

The CCE works to establish and strengthen partnerships between the community and the University. We assist community organizations in connecting with opportunities to collaborate with SSU and faculty members to help them integrate learning pedagogies for the common good into their curricula. This includes service-learning, community-based participatory and action research, public service, problem-based learning for the common good, and activism.  Additionally, we help non-profit organizations, faculty and staff connect with leadership positions such as Boards of Directors and committees and students connect with careers for the common good.

Primary Responsibilities:

Marketing & Communications

  • Create marketing materials to promote CCE programs, service-learning courses, and community projects

  • Develop content for CCE websites and digital platforms

  • Design infographics and visuals that explain service-learning and its career benefits

  • Create classroom-ready handouts for students and faculty

  • Help collect and share student stories, community impact highlights, and project successes

  • Assist with social media posts for events, student experiences, and community partners

Student Outreach & Engagement

  • Give short presentations to classes, student groups, and campus programs about service-learning

  • Represent CCE at campus events (Seawolf Days, tabling events, career fairs, showcases)

  • Support campus-wide promotion of service-learning opportunities

Professional Development

As an intern, you will:

  • Build career skills aligned with NACE competencies (communication, leadership, teamwork, professionalism)

  • Network with campus leaders, nonprofits, and community partners

  • Gain hands-on experience in marketing, public speaking, digital storytelling, and project management

  • Receive mentorship from CCE staff and opportunities to co-lead workshops

Qualifications

  • Interest in community engagement, social impact, education, or communications

  • Service-learning or community experience preferred

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Marketing or design experience is a plus; Canva experience or willingness to learn required

Hours & Compensation

  • Academic internship with a $500 scholarship upon completion

  • Must enroll in 2–3 internship units (1 unit ≈ 45 hours/semester)
