Safari West Wildlife Foundation’s Mission Statement:
Our mission is to raise awareness about protecting wildlife and their habitats today while inspiring people to care for its future. The Foundation advances wildlife stewardship beyond borders by providing conservation education tools and programs for children, their families, and educators.
Volunteer Internship Overview:
We are seeking a creative and motivated Social Media Volunteer Intern. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by amplifying our mission and connecting with our community through engaging online content. As a Social Media Intern, you will help manage and grow our social media platforms, develop compelling content, and strategize ways to increase engagement with our audience. This volunteer role is ideal for students looking to gain hands-on experience in social media marketing while supporting a cause that makes a difference.
Project Duties and Responsibilities:
- The internship is an unpaid volunteer position.
- The Intern will be expected to create, edit, and publish a variety of clips, reels, and shorts content (1-3 minutes) featuring Safari West (SW) animals and Safari West Wildlife Foundation (SWWF) programs. The goal is to post weekly. The Intern will also produce an extended video of approximately three minutes to showcase the foundation’s programs, plus an additional class project if required. The proposed content will be reviewed and may require editing by Safari West and SWWF before posting on SWWF’s social media sites.
- The goals of the content include:
- Creating impactful stories to educate viewers about SWWF funded programs:
Safari West LIVE, Junior Keepers, and Discover Africa.
- Education of viewers concerning the role conservation education plays in the survival of endangered animals. Education of wildlife habitat, lifestyle, and care may be featured. Various animals and their conservation, health, and behavior will increase awareness of different species.
- Story telling about the Foundation’s special events and fundraising opportunities.
- The Intern will be supervised onsite at SW for 2 - 4 hours per week.
- The content of the videos will follow guidelines developed by SW and SWWF, and filming work will be noninvasive to the animals, staff, applicants, and guests of SW.
- Content is the property of SWWF and is to be used as needed for the benefit of the SWWF. The student will be acknowledged as a videographer and editor of the content when posted. This acknowledgment will help to build the student’s professional portfolio.
- The applicant will not physically interact with animals at SW but may video and ask questions of SW staff and SWWF educational personnel.
- A member of the Safari West LIVE team will supervise the Intern. Safari West LIVE is a mobile interactive live video program funded by SWWF. A SWWF Board of Directors member will be the liaison between the academic institution and the SWWF Board of Directors.
- The Intern will have access (if desired) to the professional-grade videography equipment owned by SWWF provided it does not interfere with the operations of Safari West LIVE.
- This process will provide an opportunity for student(s) to create, edit, and post online content using their cell phone cameras, training, and if appropriate, the use of the SWWF video equipment.
- The student will provide evidence of personal health insurance and will provide their transportation including proof of auto insurance to SWWF throughout the length of the internship.
- The Internship/Project participant will adhere to the policies of the Safari West Wildlife Foundation and the agreement/contract with the SWWF and if required, the academic institution in which they are enrolled.
- All donations and subscriptions generated by this project will be the property of SWWF.
- Safari West Wildlife Foundation will monitor followers, subscriptions, and donations associated with the content related to the internship.
